Tips For Finding A Great Stretching DVD

Stretching is a great at home exercise routine to stay young and fit.  There are many different types of stretching and each one will get you different results, so you should pick the one that best fits your goals.  Stretching is something everyone should do no matter your age or fitness level.

Stretching is great exercise and is one of the safest types of exercise around. Many people prefer to do their stretching in the comfort of their own homes and will attempt to find a stretching DVD to follow to complete their workout. There are many different types of stretching DVD routines for a person to choose from, but by following a few tips, the person will be able to find a great stretching routine that is easy for them to follow.

Match Your Age

Many stretching DVD routines are geared towards a specific age group and individuals that belong to that age group with get the greatest benefit out of the DVD. Many seniors will choose a stretching DVD that is specifically targeted towards seniors to ensure that they will not get hurt during the exercise. Teenagers tend to choose DVD's that feature people their own age and will get a high intensity workout that is geared to stretch their growing bodies.

The easiest way to tell what age group a stretching DVD is intended for is to look at the picture on the cover of the DVD. The approximate age of the person that is hosting the show will be the approximate age of the people that the DVD is intended for and all of the movements that are used in the DVD will be designed for the limitations of that person's age. A senior should not purchase a stretching DVD with a picture of a 20-year-old man on the front because the exercises that are done on that DVD are meant to be performed by people who are much younger.

Match Your Health

People that are suffering from limited mobility or who have chronic health problems should probably stay away from any stretching DVD that advertises fast paced or high impact exercises. Any DVD that promotes results in a short amount of time should also be avoided because this means that many of the exercises used in the DVD will be intense and may be too much for a weakened body to take. Before beginning any type of exercise program, it is important to consult with your doctor and make sure that you are healthy enough for the physical activity.

People that are undergoing physical therapy or rehabilitation may find that a flexibility DVD will provide them with the greatest benefits out of all the stretching DVD genres. These exercise programs use slow, steady movements to increase the strength and mobility range of different parts of the body. Over time, the mobility that the people enjoyed before will slowly return and the pain that they feel while doing the exercises will diminish as the muscles become stronger.
