exercises. Static stretching and dynamic stretching are common
stretching techniques that serve different purposes. Static
stretching increases flexibility in static positions, such as the
splits. Dynamic stretching increases flexibility through movement
through the range of motion. For instance, a martial artist often
does leg swinging stretching exercises which can help them be able
to kick above their head.
Everyone can benefit from muscle
stretching and flexibility exercises. Stretching muscles improves
flexibility, helps prevent injury, helps relieve stress, and
connects the mind and body. Like any other form of physical or
mental training it requires practice. Everyone should have a
stretching exercise routine. Before you establish a routine
determine your flexibility goals, and create your routine to help
you reach those goals.
Whether you are stretching for static flexibility or dynamic
flexibility it is important that you perform the proper stretching
exercises and techniques to improve that form of flexibility. Being
able to kick above your head does not mean that you can do the
splits, or vise versa. They require different kinds of stretching
and flexibility.
Even if your goals are not being able to
do the splits or kick over your head you can benefit from
